Will you prefer Water or Coke? This is no Joke.

Water or Coke?
I could not believe this..... Very interesting

WATER

1. 75% of people are chronically dehydrated.
(Likely applies to half the world population)

2. In 37% of people, the thirst mechanism is so weak
that it is mistaken for hunger.

3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as 3%.

4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs
for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of
Washington study.

5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of
water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain
for up to 80% of sufferers.

7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term
memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on
the computer screen or on a printed page.

8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of
colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast
cancer by 79%., and one is 50% less likely to develop
bladder cancer. Are you drinking the amount of water
you should drink every day?

COKE

1. In many states the highway patrol carries ten liters or
two gallons of Coke in the boot (trunk) to remove blood from
the highway after a car accident.

2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke
and it will be gone in two days.

3.. To clean a toilet:
Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the
toilet bowl and let the 'real thing' sit for one hour,
then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes
stains from vitreous china.

4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers:
Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals:
Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble
away the corrosion.

6. To loosen a rusted bolt:
Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola
to the rusted bolt for several minutes.

7. To bake a moist ham:
Empty a can of Coca-Cola into
the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake.
Thirty minutes before ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.

8. To remove grease from clothes:
Empty a can of Coke into the load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains.. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

1 the active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid.
It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric
acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major
contributor to the rising increase of osteoporosis.

2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup! (the concentrate) the
commercial trucks must use a hazardous Material place
cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.

3. The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean
engines of the trucks for about 20 years!

Now the question is, would you like a glass of water? or Coke?

PEPSI AND COKE BATTLE
CONSUMER PANIC IN INDIA AFTER
CHEMICAL POISON RESIDUES
DISCOVERED IN SOFT DRINKS
RAMA LAKSHMI, WASHINGTON POST:

This is one war that PepsiCo and Coca-Cola are not waging against each other.

Since an Indian environmental watchdog group released a report alleging that the drinks contain high levels of pesticide residue, the two international cola giants have battled consumer panic, "smash-the-bottle" street campaigns and angry lawmakers calling for a ban on the products. Both PepsiCo and Coca-Cola have issued countless rebuttals and published advertisements disputing the allegations.

On [August 8], they took the matter to court.
"Unfortunately the whole matter has come to a point where it is beginning to damage our business in India," David Cox, Coca-Cola's Asia spokesman, said in an interview.
The unlikely alliance formed soon after the release on [August 5] of a report by the Center for Science and Environment, a private group based in New Delhi that has fought numerous environmental battles against the bottled water, automobile and paper industries. Tests of 12 leading drinks produced and marketed in India by the two companies showed that "all samples contained residues of four extremely toxic pesticides and insecticides: lindane, DDT, malathion and chlorpyrifos," the report said.

"In all samples, levels of pesticide residues far exceeded the maximum residue limit for pesticides in water used as 'food,' set down by the European Economic Commission," the report stated.
The report asserted that "each sample had enough poison to cause --- in the long term --- cancer, damage to the nervous and reproductive systems, birth defects and severe disruption of the immune system."
Jimmy said…
The tests made headlines in newspapers across the country [August 6], and the
Indian Parliament discontinued the sale of Pepsi and Coke in its cafeteria, while several lawmakers demanded a ban on the drinks.

"They are playing with the lives of the people," Ramjilal Suman, a member of Parliament from the opposition Samajwadi Party, shouted from the floor of the lower house. "This is nothing but poison in the name of soft drinks." Another legislator called the drinks "a silent killer."

The health minister, Sushma Swaraj, told Parliament that the results of the study were "shocking" and promised a "comprehensive inquiry." Samples of leading cola brands were sent to government laboratories for independent tests.
Jimmy said…
Indian law requires only that drinks be made from potable water --- without defining the term.

At least two public interest groups filed court petitions calling for a nationwide ban on the drinks. For a third day, young members of various political parties and student groups demanding a ban smashed bottles of the two brands on streets across the country [August 8].
Jimmy said…
In an unusual joint news conference, PepsiCo and Coca-Cola --- which enjoy a growing $1.2 billion market in India, selling about 6.5 billion bottles per year --- swiftly denied the report's contentions and asserted that pesticide levels in their beverages were below EEC levels.

PepsiCo took out newspaper advertisements that gave details of its testing methods and declared: "The safest thing you are likely to drink today is a Pepsi."
Jimmy said…
Vasi Reddy of Vimta Laboratories, a firm that PepsiCo used for tests, said that "in this billion-plus developing nation, due to excessive pesticide use, our entire food chain contains pesticide residues.

In tests, even human milk in India contained pesticide residue" that was greater than the limits set by the Worth Health Organization.
"The real issue is to have a proactive policy on phasing out pesticides," Reddy said.
Reddy said the residues found in PepsiCo samples were below EEC limits, but Sunita Narain, head of the Center for Science and Environment, said the results that the two companies have published in their advertisements reflect tests conducted on the raw and treated water they use, not on the final product.
Jimmy said…
Cox, the Coca-Cola spokesman, said his company's standard procedure worldwide was to test for pesticides and contaminants, and that they were free of pesticides.
"This is why we have to consider all options, including legal ones," Cox said.

Senior officials have flown in from Coca-Cola's headquarters in Atlanta and are conducting tests on the products bottled and sold in India.
Coca-Cola filed a motion in the Bombay High Court challenging state officials' actions in confiscating a huge stock of its products in the western city of Pune. PepsiCo, meanwhile, filed a petition in the New Delhi High Court seeking to restrain the Center for Science and Environment from publishing its report, and requested an independent evaluation of the allegations.
Jimmy said…
Narain, head of the private group, said the report was not intended as an attack on the beverage giants. "Our battle is not with Pepsi or Coca-Cola," said Narain, "it is with the Indian government, whose norms are a vague maze of meaningless definitions."

The Coca-Cola Company is the world's biggest drinks company, controlling more than half the global market in carbonated soft drinks as well as a substantial chunk of the non-carbonated segment.

It owns four of the world's five best-selling soft drinks. Its principal brand is of course Coca-Cola itself, the single most valuable brand in the world.

But the company also sells almost 400 other beverages ranging from spin-offs such as Cherry Coke and sister brands Fanta and Sprite to a vast range of carbonated and non-carbonated juice-based drinks, bottled waters, iced teas and coffees.

Recently the company has found its sheer size working against it. Competition authorities watch the company's every move, while market saturation and economic downturns in both emerging and mature markets have repeatedly caused sales growth to stall.

Advertising Age estimated global measured advertising expenditure of $2.2bn in 2007, making Coca-Cola the world's #9 advertiser.

Coca-Cola Sued for Marketing Vitaminwater as Healthy

A class-action suit contends that Coca-Cola is illegally marketing its “Vitaminwater” line as a healthy product. The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) is one party to the suit, which cites California consumer-protection laws.

According to the suit, "Vitaminwater is not a healthy beverage. Rather it is sugar water -- just like soft drinks -- with a few added vitamins."

The suit cites the labeling of Vitaminwater with flavors such as "defense," "rescue," "energy" and "multi-v" as proof of its health claims. The suit asks that California consumers of Vitaminwater be awarded actual and punitive damages.

Coca-Cola: The American Symbol

An Atlanta druggist, named Dr. John Stith Pemberton, invented a substance called "Coca-Cola" syrup on May 8, 1886.

As the years progressed, this drink came to be known as Coke and its sales started booming.

Slowly this drink, whose colors are red and white, eased its way into American society and culture, and it would become a symbol of America, here and abroad.

Advertisements are the most straightforward insight into Coke's status as an American symbol, especially the ads during the 1930's and 1940's.

They are extremely widespread and can be found almost everywhere. One can find Coke ads in magazines, on TV, on billboards, on signs, and in many other ...

Why did you want to join Mujahideen?

Do you still want to kill non-Muslims?

ABDULLAH (through translator): Yes, definitely. When I grow up, I will join the Mujahideen, and I'll kill non-Muslims.

MARGARET WARNER: Former Taliban ambassador to Pakistan and Guantanamo prisoner Abdul Salam Zaeef predicts this kind of anti-Western sentiment will prove a tough fight for the new U.S. troops.

ABDUL SALAM ZAEEF, Former Taliban Ambassador to Pakistan: They do not care about themselves or care about the Americans. They said, "When we're killed, we are successful. If we kill American, we are successful." And it's no difference for them.

MARGARET WARNER: What will I see?

ABDUL SALAM ZAEEF: If they will not allow you to go there, that means that's out of control government.

MARGARET WARNER: So that means Taliban's in control?

ABDUL SALAM ZAEEF: Yes.

MARGARET WARNER: At the other end of that vital highway lies the coalition's Regional Command South. It will soon see a lot more action.

It is here at Kandahar air field where most of the new U.S. troops will come to be deployed throughout the south. This is where the Taliban started taking over Afghanistan 13 years ago. Subduing them here now is essential to stopping them this time.

BRIG. GEN. JOHN NICHOLSON: We've had insufficient forces to adequately secure the population in the southern region for some time. Despite the heroic efforts of our allies, they've simply not had enough forces to do it.

With the introduction of U.S. forces, we are going to be able to adequately secure the population and then move forward in terms of governance and development.

MARGARET WARNER: But this is a huge area. Can 17,000 more troops really enable you to secure the population throughout this area?

The Shackleton–Rowett Expedition was the last Antarctic expedition led by Sir Ernest Shackleton (pictured), and the final episode in the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration. The venture, lasting from 1921 to 1922, financed by businessman John Quiller Rowett, is sometimes referred to as the Quest Expedition after its ship, a small converted Norwegian whaler.

Before the expedition's work could properly begin, Shackleton died aboard ship, just after its arrival at the sub-Antarctic island of South Georgia.

The major part of the subsequent foreshortened expedition was a three-month cruise to the eastern Antarctic, under the leadership of second-in-command Frank Wild. In these waters the shortcomings of Quest were soon in evidence: slow speed, heavy fuel consumption, a tendency to roll in heavy seas, and a steady leak.

The ship was unable to proceed further than longitude 20°E, well short of its easterly target, and its engine's low power was insufficient for it to penetrate far into the Antarctic ice. Following several fruitless attempts to break southwards through the pack ice, Wild returned the ship to South Georgia, after a nostalgic visit to Elephant Island, where he and 21 others had been stranded during Shackleton's Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition six years earlier.

Although not greatly regarded in the histories of polar exploration, the Quest voyage is of historical significance, standing at the very end of the Heroic Age and the beginning of the "Mechanical Age" that followed it. (more...)

Some Fleet Air Arm units, including 819 Squadron moved onto the station in 1962 and they referred to it as HMS Sealion
In 1968, a 204 Squadron Shackleton flying from Ballykelly suffered the last loss of a Shackleton when Sqn Ldr Clive Haggett and his crew, a total of 12 men, were killed when their aircraft flew into the Mull of Kintyre early one rainy morning.

Joke for Easter

A family of moles had been hibernating all winter. One beautiful spring morning, they woke up. The father mole stuck his head out of the hole and looked around. "Mother Mole!" He called back down the hole. "Come up here! I smell honey, fresh made honey!"

The mother mole ran up and squeezed in next to him. "That's not honey, that's maple syrup! I smell maple syrup!"

The baby mole, still down in the hole, was sulking. "I can't smell anything down here but molasses.
