Although we are not into receiving impromptu visitors; Barney was the exception.
Barney is a big guy friendly and excitable. we first met barney about eighteen months ago at the time our son Tim was house hunting and had left his three little ones in our care. We were not sure where Barney lived at first but later was told it was about a kilometer down the road. Barney always had a great reception from our three little ones and joined in their activities which included dinner in the evening. We were not too concerned about the extra mouth to feed as it was a pleasure to see how amicable they were. However, as soon as it got dark, the four of them would gather around the front gate to see him leave.
Then it came to pass that our son Tim moved in with us for ten months, and during that time Barney continued to call and for a joke swapped his identity tag with one of our little one's for several visits, this resulted in a visit to our house by a lady who informed us that Barney was her little one and she lived near the supermarket about a half mile down the road and was pleased we were looking after Barney her seven year old.
About two months ago, Tim moved out with his brood to Muswellbrook in NSW, but Barney continued to call every couple or so days, It is hard to explain to a seven year old that his friends have gone for ever, then his calls were every week and we could see he was unhappy and would not stay too long, Rosemary my darling would give him a hug and told him he was welcome anytime we were at home.
Sadly Barney has not been around for the past twelve days, then again Barney was always unpredictable, you never knew about Barney, but he knew he was always welcome anytime for a feed of Sardines.
Another thought to finish off the week. It seems only yesterday that it was last Friday and school hols had only just started. We are currently baby sitting our 16 and 13 year old gorgeous Granddaughters, we couldn't wish for better behaved young ladies,
Today Friday 24th we will be busy shopping and preparing for tomorrow which is 'Anzac Day' in Strayer and the land of the long white cloud (Google for more info)
This annual event seems to arrive quicker every year. I shall not be marching in the big parade this year, reason being Wobblylegitis after the first mile.
So it will be a sedate lunch a drop of tipple and a silly old singsong which will be only meaningful to us old geezers.
Here is another parable from our Bean counter; Graeme.
One day , the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live.
They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.
On their return from their trip , the father asked his son , "How was the trip?"
"It was great , Dad."
"Did you see how poor people live?" the father asked.
"Oh yeah , " said the son.
"So , tell me , what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father.
The son answered:
"I saw that we have one dog and they had four.
We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end.
We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night.
Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon.
We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight.
We have servants who serve us , but they serve others.
We buy our food , but they grow theirs.
We have walls around our property to protect us , they have friends to protect them."
The boy's father was speechless.
Then his son added , "Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are."
Isn't perspective a wonderful thing? Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don't have.
Appreciate every single thing you have , especially your friends!
Pass this on to friends and acquaintances and help them refresh their perspective and appreciation.
"Life is too short and friends are too few."
Have a wonderful weekend, Get back to you all soon, Vest.
