Channel Seven news, "Get it right".

There are no battleships in tonight's news at 630pm. They are WARSHIPS. The last Commonwealth or British Battleship that was a warship of Battleship class to fire an Angry Shot was the 40,000 ton Battleship HMS King George V in August 1945 during the war in the Pacific.. It was scrapped 57 years ago.....Les Bowyer Budgewoi Ex KGV.
BTW , it would be like calling a submarine  a battleship.

I believe the battleships in the past are all gone apart from the Mighty Mo the USS Missouri a tourist relic in Hawaii. Mike.

Yes I remember the Mighty Mo in the harbour off Gab Gab beach Guam May 25-1945, following Op Iceberg. The M M Gifted us an Ice cream machine, The first in the R/Navy, The Operation Iceberg was nine weeks of entertainment by the frolicking antics of the Nippon aerobatic banzai guys. A sort of suicidal pacific cruise.They were the good old days so I have been told.

Oddly, the final British battleship built in 1944 and which never fired an angry shot was named HMS Vanguard, its name meaning 'To go before'

Answer is, a few minor burns and scratches and a little blood plus a serious fall which left me in traction when I returned to Sydney after the war.

In my paper today I read,Gallipoli was not just an Anzac affair inreality they were am important butrelatively small part of the entirety. The Anzac forces lost 8000 men with18000 wounded. Britain lost 33000 killedand 7500 missing plus 78000 wounded the french then the sub continent Indian ary lost as many as the brits. Lest you forget.Mike.

Wally: No i did not. All of my mates are infirm or dead and I have a list to port with my gongs weighing me down.
